The Shot Tower was built in 1870 for the purpose of producing lead shot, the first of its kind in Australia, becoming an iconic building in Tasmania’s south. Located along the scenic coastal drive of Taroona, only minutes from Hobart and Kingston, the Shot Tower is the only circular sandstone building left in the world and is the only remaining tower of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere still accessible for the public to climb. Learn about a part of Tasmanian history and view important historical artefacts in the Shot Tower Museum, climb the tower’s spiral staircase for the impressive 360-degree view from the top, visit the old-world Tower Tearoom and stone dining courtyard for Devonshire Tea and other treats. Peruse the gift shop or take a walk through the surrounding gardens and see the castle-style Shot Tower residence. Towering historic icon Beach swimming. Photography by: Raelene Watson
