Page 64 | Tasmania’s Pristine South 2019 January February March u Events March Cygnet Folk Festival: January 11-13 Every year, over three wonderful days, Cygnet comes alive with the sights, sounds and smells of the world. The event features acts from around the world, as well as locally, with dance, arts and music on display. This is an event not to be missed. Visit www.cygnet folkfestival.org for further information. Australia Day celebrations: January 26 Every year at Kingston Beach in Kingborough, and recently at the Franklin Oval in the Huon Valley, the Australia Day celebrations are truly one of a kind. Come along and join in the fun on the beach or near the river with both tourists and locals enjoying a fun filled day out. Have a game of cricket or volleyball, take a swim in the ocean, enjoy a sausage from the barbecue and celebrate all things that are important to you on Australia Day. Middleton Country Fair: February 2 With over 70 stalls, there is a range of entertainment, products and produce for everyone. When driving down the Channel Highway, look out for the scarecrows that dot the sides of the road. These are no ordinary scarecrows though. Their job is to win the scarecrow competition at the Country Fair, with visitors to the event given the chance to vote for their favourite. Wheels in the Park: February 3 This is a great day for car and bike enthusiasts to enjoy some classic and vintage vehicles of all kinds. Held at Heritage Park in Geeveston, this is fast becoming a popular annual event with activities for the whole family. There are trophy categories and even a mini road track for children to ride their bikes or scooters. Huon Art Awards: March 1-17 HAEG’s Huon Art Awards art exhibition for Tasmanian artists, is on from opening night at 6pm on Friday, March 1 until Sunday, March 17 in the Cygnet Town Hall, 14 Mary Street, Cygnet. Opening daily from 10am-4pm. Cygnet Regatta: March long weekend This is a long established sailing regatta and is now one of the largest keel boat regattas in Tasmania. The regatta features a lead up race from Hobart to Kettering on the Friday evening, a race from Kettering to Cygnet on the Saturday, Regatta Day at Cygnet on the Sunday and then back up the D’Entrecasteaux Channel. Hot Dub Wine Machine March 9 Huon Valley - check website. A Taste of the Huon: March 10-11 A Taste of the Huon is a celebration of fine food, wine, entertainment, arts and crafts from the Huon Valley and Channel regions. Held at the Ranelagh recreation ground, located only 30-minutes drive south from Hobart, this is an event that should not be missed if you are looking for the perfect way to discover truly what the Huon Valley and Channel regions have to offer. Love Living Locally March Kingborough’s premier Love Living Locally sustainable living event – a free community gathering to celebrate living locally in Kingborough. The day includes sensational stalls, fabulous entertainment, fun for children and an expo including horticulture, art, home industries and a children’s category.
