The former St John’s Church Hall is a heritage listed, weatherboard building with a long history. It has been converted into a cosy cafe that is the cellar door of Frank’s Cider. The café specialises in local seasonal produce, and uses beef, fruit, herbs and vegetables grown on Frank Clark’s farm that was settled in the 1830s. Prepare to feast on delicious “cider inspired” dishes such as prize-winning scallop pie (in season), cider cured salmon, and slow cooked braised wallaby. Local cheese, house made relish, and cured meats are also a specialty. Apple pie and apple cider scones are freshly cooked every day. Great coffee, local craft beer and Tasmanian wines are also available. Frank’s Cider has a multi award winning range, including Summer Apple, Summer Pear, Cherry/Pear and Raspberry/ Pear blends. They are all made with 100 per cent Tasmanian fruit, most of it grown in Franklin by Frank’s family. Free cider tasting is offered all day. Have a glass with lunch, or take some away for later! The walls inside the cafe showcase the history of Frank’s family, and memories of the apple industry which thrived in the Huon Valley, in years gone by. Step back in time as you take a break and sample the finest the Huon Valley has to offer! Open seven days a week (closed some public holidays), call (03) 6266 3828 for bookings. u Huon Valley
