Formerly known as the Picnic Hotel until 1937, the Grand has been serving both locals and travellers since 1872. Offering traditional pub meals, with gluten-free and vegetarian options, their menu is available as takeaway, too. Three dining areas are available, including the Riverview Dining Room, Who doesn’t love a Sunday roast with all the trimmings? That’s just one of the treats waiting for you at the Boatshed Café, open daily from 10am to 4pm, on the Esplanade in Huonville, nestled on the banks of the serene Huon River. Chef Lynne has many years of experience, and a passion for genuine home-style cooking, using the best and freshest local produce. “There’s no better place than here in the Huon Valley,” Lynne says. “I think our farmers, fishers, growers, and makers create the finest produce in the country, and it’s right here on our doorstep.” If you’re in the mood for a snack, Lynne can serve up some piping hot fish and chips, a Boatshed Burger or toastie. Real coffee is also on the menu – the beans roasted nearby in Cygnet by artisan roasters, The Beansmith. And that famous Sunday roast? It’s on every Sunday from noon to 2pm. Lynne selects the best available produce for the roasts, so you might be sitting down to roast pork with crackling, succulent local lamb or grass fed Huon Valley beef. overlooking the Huon River, Lito’s Lounge and the traditional bar. The bar had a facelift with a new macrocarpa pine bar incorporated with the old 1937 bar, plus a coat of paint brightening the hotel’s interior. Traditional, old-style, hotel accommodation is available, as is TAB, Keno and gaming machines. A large car park at the rear of the hotel has space to park campervans, and wheelchair access is available. The Grand is open seven days a week from 11am; lunch available every day from noon to 2pm and dinner on Monday to Saturday from 5pm to 8pm and Sunday from 5pm to 7.30pm.
