Nearly every stop you will make during your journey will most likely have some sort of local cider, wine, produce, clothing, craft or creation on offer. GEEVESTON Further south, you will reach the area known as the timber town, Geeveston. Geeveston has forestry heritage and today caters for travellers exploring the nearby forests, Hartz Mountains National Park, the Tahune Airwalk and rivers. Surrounded by rolling hills and the nearby mountains, Geeveston has a range of shops, eateries and local attractions, and a main street full of hand-carved timber sculptures of famous locals. PORT HUON When driving south of Franklin, you will enter Port Huon, which was once a busy trading port and the destination for international apple boats that transported and exported the region’s famous apples to the world. FRANKLIN Ten minutes south of Huonville is the riverside township of Franklin, known for its wooden boat history. Franklin displays the talent of locals when it comes to boatbuilding and the famous Huon Pine. HUONVILLE Huonville is the main township in the Huon Valley municipality, located where the highway meets the Huon River. The Huon Valley Council Chambers are located on Main Street, along with many shops and businesses. Outside Huonville is Ranelagh, where the recreational ground hosts popular yearly events, including A Taste of the Huon and the Huon Show. Further up the road in Grove, the Mid-Winter Fest is held in July each year. Up the Huon River you will find Glen Huon, Judbury and Lonnavale and you can continue out to the wilderness of the Southwest National Park. CYGNET Travelling from the Channel, you will come through Verona Sands, Randalls Bay and up to the creative town of Cygnet. Cygnet is something of a local mecca for creative types, and the home of the widely-popular Cygnet Folk Festival, that attracts musicians and music lovers from mainland Australia and the world. The town includes several craft shops, art studios and galleries, along with groceries, fuel and all necessities. HUON VALLEY Also known as the ‘Apple Valley’, the Huon Valley produces some of the best apples and fruits, which can be seen along the roads during the summer and tasted from the many roadside apple stores or multiple cider houses and wineries.
