Located between two public fossicking areas, Lunaris Gemstones features local gemstones – agate, quartz, jasper – Jurassic fossils, wood and rare ferns. Tasmanian minerals are for sale, including Tasmania’s mineral emblem, crocoite. There is also a display of fluorescent minerals. Jewellery, such as necklaces, earrings, bracelets and brooches, are made from Tasmanian stichtite stone and jade. Whilst the emphasis is on Tasmanian specimens, Lunaris stocks overseas and Australian gems and fossils, including slabs for lapidaries. Lunaris Gemstones regularly attend Salamanca Market on Saturdays, providing fossicking information to those who want to dig and find their own gems.
